Overview

When you turn 15, you can begin the tasks to earn your driver's license! To get your license, you must complete five steps. Teenagers need to complete a 30-hour classroom course. This process can be completed online or in the classroom. Next, you must take the California DMV Permit Licensing Exam. To pass the exam, test takers must get a minimum score of 38/46 questions correct. After, permit holders must drive for 6 hours with a licensed instructor. This validates your driving permit and allows you to drive with an adult in the vehicle. The fourth step is completing 50 practice hours behind the wheel before your final test. The last hurdle is passing your Behind the Wheel exam. Once you complete each step, you are officially a California licensed driver on probation. The probation period lasts one year from successfully passing your driving test and imposes certain restrictions. The process is daunting, but we have more in-depth information about the steps.
